Hassan Sharif
Experiment – Watercolour, 2009
Watercolour and pencil on paper
Group of 3 works, 38.3 x 28.4 cm each

“This triptych is an experiment on paper in which Hassan Sharif first paints squares of green watercolour onto a grid, and then paints over those squares with black watercolour that has differing concentrations across the three panels. In the first panel, the green is still very visible as the black coat contains a high consistency of water. By the third panel, however, the watercolour is much less watery and therefore almost all of the green base is obscured by this layer.

Such Experiments have been a cornerstone of Sharif’s practice since the ‘80s and begin from essentially pointless or laborious systems and processes.”
